About Turkish Art

Turkish Ceramics is a handcraft based on painting of tiles, vases, plates with historical designs coming from hundreds of years ago.

The history of Turkish Ceramics goes to the first muslim Turkish community named Karakhanids. This shows that Turkish Ceramics history is older than 1000 years. It is also wellknown that these paintings were used by Uighurs, Ghaznavids (961-1186), Khwarazmian dynasty (1077-1231).

Great Seljuq Empire (1037-1194) and Seljuq Sultanate of Rum (1077-1307) used Ceramics frequently to decorate buildings. After breakup of Seljuk Sultanate of Rum, by the establishment of Ottoman Empire (1299-1922), a new era started at Turkish Ceramics.

Main colors used on historical Turkish Ceramics at the beginning were dark blue, blue, turquoise and black. Later red, green and brown were added to these colors.
